My top 5 cruelty-free vegan makeup picks

Holy cow! Vegan products can be awesome on your face and cruelty free.

Vegan products have been around for quite some time but only recently I have come to find some staples that really can give back to the community and give you a great finish as well.

So before we go ahead - what are vegan products? It's basically anything that does not harm animals directly or indirectly in any way and doesn't include any animal derived ingredient.

Why make the switch?

1. Dead animal by products: Many cosmetics contains dead animal by products including dead insect extracts, beeswax and uric acid of cows, which then touch your skin.

2. Sensitive skin: Vegan products are not only cruelty free but they are better on your skin. They leave out the harsh ingredients found in non-vegan makeup

3. Pesticide exposure: Sometimes animals like sheep are exposed to pesticides to prevent pests. The lanolin from the fur is used for products like moisturizers. The residue of the pesticides can find its way to the final product and don't forget your skin absorbs what you put on it.

Noo... that doesn't mean you have to throw out all your make up and replace it with vegan products! It's just about knowing what goes on your face really. If you notice some of the biggest cosmetic brands have already made the switch a long time ago including, Too Faced, Tarte and Urban Decay.

All these brands have a huge selection of vegan products. They do sell non vegan products too, but most of them are transitioning to make their entire line Vegan.

There are a few products you can invest in, in case your want to go the vegan way.

Even though the Benefit Porefessional Primer is not tested on animal, it is not necessarily vegan. However, the Toofaced Hangover Primer is made with coconut water making it a truly natural option.

Ditch your Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation stick for Tarte's Clay Stick Foundation, which is weightless, natural coverage and great for your skin.

Thinking of getting a vegan concealer? Then try the Urban Decay's Naked Skin Weightless Concealer  which is loaded with delectable lychee and Japanese green tea.

As a kid my mother stopped me from wearing lipstick because she believed it contained lizard's venom. I never believed her as I thought it was one of your tactics to stop me from wearing lipstick. Little did I know that she was partially right.

It didn't contain lizard venom but some major products do contain dead lizard extract.

I would suggest a set of Everlasting Liquid Lipstick by Kat Von D which are Vegan and 100% cruelty free.

I think its time to ditch our favourite MAC highlighter for Wet n Wild's Colour Icon Rainbow Highlighter
