Liquid lipsticks are getting more popular day by day. It's a product which seems to be here to stay because they
are long lasting
are easy to apply
But like any product, there are people who love it and some who don't. And there are some who just don't know how to wear it.
From speaking with my clients, one of the top reason why people seem to hate it is because it makes their lips crack or flake. My daily skin routine is the reason why my lips don't crack or flake after wearing liquid lipsticks.
So next time, before you start applying your liquid lipstick, there are a few essentials that you need to know: -
Right before applying, use a lip scrub to exfoliate your lips. Lush in Dubai Mall has some amazing sugar scrubs for approximately Dhs. 69/- . Even SOUQ.com has some amazing lip scrubs. My favourite is the one by ELF cosmetics for Dhs. 17/-
Get all the chapsticks, serums and lip balms out of hiding. After any exfoliating process, moisturising process is a must. Same way after you exfoliate your lips, massage a heavy or regular moisturiser or lip balm. Make sure you let it sink in before you apply lipstick. Even if you don't exfoliate, do apply a moisturiser atleast 10 minutes before you apply your lipstick.
3. Just one coat!
Yes that's correct! You only need one coat to get the opaque pigment you want. Try it, it's a game changer.
4. It's not a two minute job!
Do not attempt to wear this behind the wheel. Applying liquid lipstick is not a 2 minute job. It requires a bit of patience, specially if you have thin lips like mine. Don't go quickly as you might end up with lumpy and lopsided finish.
5. Don't double or triple coat when dried
Most liquid lipsticks come as a set of 4 or 6. They are usually bundled in a way you can use each shade solo, or create an ombre effect by combining two or more lipsticks.
Once the first layer is dried, don't add a second layer as it will become crumbly like there's powder on your lips. If you want two layers make sure it hasn't completely dried yet.
